Watsu and Aquatic Therapy at The Abbott Center
|
| Aquatic Therapy |
Our 4' deep heated hydrotherapy
pool is available for a variety of uses. A swim jet, massage heads
and fitness 'toys' are some of the choices available for excercising
with our water fitness trainer. Water based excercise is very popular
in cross-training programs and is used extensively by those who need
rehabilitation as well as those for whom land-based excercise is difficult.
Warm water is also appropriate for hydromassage (a floating massage
using a pressurized hose), for Watsu (water shiatsu, a gentle floating
therapy), or for relaxation before or after a therapy session. Our
therapists will work with you in the pool or you can excercise and
relax on your own. |

Watsu |
Watsu is a gentle form of aquatic
bodywork that integrates the buoyant properties of water with the
stretches of shiatsu to promote healing and relaxation on a physical,
emotional and spiritual level. The client is glided through soothing
warm water in a "water dance" while being supported by the practitioner
who uses techniques such as stretching, acupressure, floating, massage
and cradling. The receiver's body glides gracefully through the water
while the forces of gravity on the joints and spine are liberated,
allowing many relaxed positions not possible on land.
The stretches of shiatsu release blocked energy along the meridians
that carry the life force called "chi." Watsu integrates a range of
applications from stress reduction at health spas to treatment for
pain relief and muscle reeducation at rehabilitation centers. It is
used to address certain psychiatric problems as well. More about "being"
than doing, Watsu recipients report a heightened sense of awareness
of inner feelings, improved general relaxation, digestion and circulation,
better sleep and decreased pain. |
