The symptoms of butt and leg pain, numbness and burning in the foot and “foot drop” that were caused by muscles in Pablo’s case were treated with Neuromuscular Therapy techniques in my clinic West of Boston. Trigger Points, nerve entrapment (piriformis syndrome), and local muscle inflammation were all addressed.

Treatment included NMT locally in his foot to relieve the local pain and numbness, hallucis-trpall the muscles in the side and front of his lower leg for the Trigger Point referrals into his toe as well as possible peroneal nerve entrapment, and the muscles in the side of the thigh that had become tight and tender from the irritation. piriformis-trpThe focus of the treatment was on Trigger Points in the piriformis and gluteus minimus.glut-min-trps

A significant program of Active Isolated Stretching was added to his daily routine and NMT treatments. Certain exercises in his PT regime were modified or eliminated until the muscles healed. He was able to slowly and carefully add them back in again and build up their strength gradually.
