The Abbott Center for Neuromuscular Therapy

Massage Therapy

What type of massage should I choose?

A detailed description of our Massage services follow, however we know that what you want may have changed since you last scheduled. We are always flexible and will tailor the treatment to your needs when you come in.

Therapeutic Massage

Our massage therapists are trained in a variety of techniques adaptable to your needs (Restorative Massage, Deep Tissue, or Sports Massage). They can all work on specific areas of concern or do a full body massage, go deeply or just help you relax. Our intake form and pre-treatment consultation will help to personalize each session and choose the treatment best suited for your needs at that time.

Generally, the characteristics of each type of massage are as follows:

Restorative Massage is a gentle full-body massage that’s great for people who are new to massage and just want a gentle, relaxing treatment.

Deep Tissue Massage uses more pressure and is a bit more intense than a Restorative Massage. It’s a good option if you have specific muscle problems or chronic soreness.

Sports Massage is helpful if you have a repetitive use injury to a muscle caused by playing a sport, or if you’re recovering or would like to prevent an injury to an affected muscle.

Neuromuscular Massage

Neuromuscular massage combines the deep relaxation of an expert massage with the specificity of Neuromuscular therapy. The time can be spent, focusing on an area of concern or attending to your whole body feeling for areas of dysfunction, tension, and pain. The therapist will treat your body holistically, using the knowledge that Neuromuscular Therapy training and years of experience brings. (Please note: Our Neuromuscular Massage practice is full at the moment. Please check back for availability. You may also add your name to our waitlist here if you’d like to be notified when there is availability.)
