Arm and hand pain: Treatment with Neuromuscular Therapy

Neuromuscular Therapy treatment for Repetitive Stress/Strain Injuries (RSI) and Carpal Tunnel Syndrome (CTS) in my Metro-West Boston clinic involves the following:

  1. Deep sustained gentle pressure on painful forearm points.
  2. “Milking” and flushing soft tissues to remove waste products and bring healing cells, nutrients and oxygen.
  3. Evaluation and treatment of specific entrapment points in the neck, chest and upper extremity to restore blood flow and nerve signals.
  4. Examining for Trigger Points in the many upper body muscles that refer pain to the forearm, and using techniques to deactivate hyperactive nodules and release taut bands.
  5. Treatment of the upper thoracic and cervical spine to loosen the muscles that can cause compression of the vertebral joints.

Consistent attention to rebuilding healthy tissue is necessary using NMT, plus Active Isolated Stretching, self-treatment, exercise, lifestyle and dietary changes, and the search for systemic, post-injury, environmental, stress, and physiological triggers. Commitment to recovery from chronic RSI is necessary because unless it has been treated at the onset of symptoms, it can be a lengthy process. It’s well worth the work if it gets your life back!
