Craniosacral Therapy at The Abbott Center

What is CranioSacral Therapy (CST)?

CranioSacral Therapy (CST) is a gentle, hands-on treatment aimed at balancing the flow of the cerebrospinal fluid that bathes and nourishes the central nervous system (membranes of the brain and spinal cord). Imbalance occurs when tension is held in the tissues of the body causing irritation, discomfort and dysfunction. CST helps facilitate self-healing, restoring the flow of CranioSacral fluid, relieving pain and nerve tension, promoting a feeling of well-being and boosting whole-body health, performance and immunity.

Craniosacral Therapy was developed by Osteopathic Physician John E. Upledger after years of clinical testing and research at Michigan State University where he served as professor of biomechanics. In 1985, The Upledger Institute was founded in Florida and has trained hundreds of thousands of instructors around the world. Stephanie completed 4 years of training starting in 2010, was certified in level 3 CST, and has helped countless individuals with a variety of conditions and needs since then.

What to expect during a session:

The therapist will instruct you to lie on your back and will apply light pressure to points located on your head, neck, and along your spine to induce a “stillpoint”. Your body will balance the stress reaction of your nervous system and redirect the flow of cerebrospinal fluid from these points to areas where it is needed. Most clients report that they feel relaxed, lighter, and much looser after a session.
